Serco is hiring a Advanced Marine Welder to be part of a dynamic team supporting our US. Navy Ships with equipment, and C5ISR system installations located in the beautiful surroundings in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques.
You will also play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations, which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military.
In the Advanced Marine Welder role, you will:
- Assemble pieces of metal together or repair damage in metal components using heavy machinery that emits high heat, melting the metal into shape
- Review blueprints
- Cut metal into the appropriate shape
- Smooth metal to remove creases
- Climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
- May train personnel on machinery tools and test equipment
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- The ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance after hire.
- 5 - 7 years of experience.
- The ability to obtain gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
- Complete successful qualification in the following Serco Welding Procedures within 30 days of starting with Serco for continued employment with Serco: Serco-001 (GMAW, Aluminum – 4 position), Serco-002 (SMAW, HY100-4 position), Serco-003 (GMAW, Aluminum – 4 position), Serco-007 (SMAW, C/S to S/S – 4 position), and Serco-012 (SMAW, S/S to S/S – 4 position).
- Your own tools of the trade and able to pass pre-certification company weld test.
- Get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift.
- Familiarity with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
- Have attention to safety, which is critical.
- Candidate must be willing to travel up to 10% to various work sites.
- A DoD Secret Clearance.
- An OSHA 10 certification.
- Shipboard experience
