We are seeking a dedicated and licensed Master Plumber to lead plumbing operations across our urban campus. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled plumber to play a critical role in maintaining and improving our plumbing infrastructure while mentoring junior staff in a supportive environment.
Responsibilities:
● Lead plumbing operations across multiple academic, administrative, and residential buildings
● Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems and fixtures in compliance with Massachusetts Plumbing Code and college standards
● Conduct advanced diagnostics on complex plumbing systems, including backflow prevention devices and hydronic systems
● Test and certify backflow prevention devices per Massachusetts DEP regulations
● Provide guidance to junior trades staff and contractors; act as the on-site subject matter expert
● Coordinate with facilities leadership to plan and execute plumbing-related capital improvements
● Read and interpret blueprints and construction documents
● Respond to emergency plumbing issues during and outside of regular hours
● Maintain accurate records of work performed and inspections
● Ensure safe use, storage, and maintenance of tools and equipment
● Collaborate with other trades on multidisciplinary projects
● Perform related duties as assigned to support department operations
Qualifications:
● High school diploma or GED required
● A valid Massachusetts Master Plumber’s License is required
● Minimum 7–10 years of plumbing experience, including two years in a lead or supervisory role
● Completion of a Massachusetts-approved plumbing apprenticeship program or equivalent training
● Experience in higher education, healthcare, or similar facilities preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Deep knowledge of Massachusetts Plumbing Code and safety standards
● Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
● Ability to work independently and make quick decisions
● Proficient in interpreting plans, blueprints, and technical manuals
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
● Comfortable using maintenance software or work order systems
Physical Abilities:
● Must be able to stand or walk up to 8 hours per day
● Able to lift or carry up to 35 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally
● Must occasionally climb ladders and work in confined spaces
● Must have physical agility and the ability to work at heights
Work Environment:
● Exposure to noise, dust, heat, chemicals, and fumes
● Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures
● May require after-hours emergency call-back work
