Responsibilities:
● Conduct on-site inspections of residential and commercial construction projects to verify compliance with applicable plumbing codes, ordinances, and approved plans.
● Inspect plumbing systems at various stages of construction, including underground, rough-in, testing, and final inspections.
● Conduct follow-up inspections and recommend stop orders/citations for non-compliance of project plans and specifications.
● Inspect, test, and verify proper installation of water supply, sanitary drainage, waste systems, venting, stormwater, backflow prevention, and gas piping systems (as applicable).
● Interpret and enforce plumbing codes, standards, and regulations consistently and professionally.
● Work with the Code Enforcement Team to respond to complaints and investigate reported plumbing-related code violations.
● Enforce codes and quality control for a variety of materials and construction practices.
● Provide technical guidance and clarification to contractors, engineers, architects, property owners, and the public regarding plumbing code requirements and inspection processes.
● Document inspection and plan review results using the City’s electronic permitting and inspection software.
● Respond to emergency callouts after regular working hours, if needed.
● Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
● State of Illinois Plumbing license.
● State of Illinois Plumbing Inspector certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
● Seven years of progressive plumbing experience, including residential and commercial systems.
● High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized/vocational training in the building trades.
● Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License.
