POSITION SUMMARY:
Prep, layout, fit, finish, and repair complex fabrications to work packages per product specifications, and production schedule under the guidance of the shop superintendent.
The fit test evaluation consists of: cutting a 13” circle out of an 18 x 18 x 3/8” plate, beveling the circle at 22 ½ degrees, fit the circle back into the plate flush with ¼” root opening and strongback it to the back side so that it is ready for weld.
The finished product is typically graded using a pass/fail result on its acceptability that same day.

The welders we are seeking for Electric Boat (Columbia Class Submarine) and MIL work are high end that need to pass the below qualifications on their own time to on board. Theses qualifications take place at our training center here at building 57 that has 20 booths for qualifications and training sessions:
- FCAW, Plate , 3-G and 4-G position
- GMAW , Pulse, 3-G and 4-G position
- GMAW, Spray, 1-G position
- GTAW, Pipe 6-G Purged
- (6) in total
Welders can qualify in with Pipe or structural or both as we are seeking both pipe welders and structural welders . Also seeking fitters with proven back ground in the ship building industry. All positions will lead to permanent for long term work. Let’s start with Anthony attached as Brian already talked to him , please reach out to him if he is still available and would like to come in to qualify to onboard.
Keep in mind the following additional requirements :
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ year proven work history in the fabrication industry as a fitter/shop fabricator
- Have experience in fitting complex fabrications for welders and fabricating non-welded components
- Advanced knowledge and experience with Shears, Breaks, punches, grinders, cutting torch, drill press, etc.
- Understands welding symbols, can decipher work package diagrams, blueprints, and or other printed instructional material.
- Can cut material utilizing shears, cutting torch, plasma torch track burner, etc.
- Operate break to form material
- Safety-focused.
- Able to work in a team environment and self-motivated.
- OSHA /10 safety training required provided by Rhoads
- Working Experience in MIL work Per TP1688 and TP278 in the DOD industry is a plus
- High school Graduate, related Trade school and history of experience in this industry required
