Job Posting Title: Plumber Pipefitter Master Position Type: Classified Department: LSUAM FA – FPO – FS – FSys – Night and Weekends – Supervision – Sup1 (Dwayne Edward Morris (00012731)) Work Location: 1140 Facility Srvcs Central Shop Pay Grade: Classified Technician and Skilled Trades Job Description: This is a highly skilled advanced Journeyman position assigned to the Night Crew which deals primarily with emergency plumbing repair requirements within all buildings located on the LSU Baton Rouge Campus. The incumbent must not only be proficient in all aspects of plumbing repairs, but must also have the ability to locate, diagnose, and perform the required repairs with above average speed in order to minimize the interruption to vital plumbing, water, gas, and steam services, and to prevent or minimize any damage that might possibly occur to the buildings and/or their contents from failures or malfunctions of plumbing systems. Job Duties: 50%- Performs emergency troubleshooting within all campus buildings on all types of piping systems in service such as steam, gas, air, water, fire mains, sewage, and drainage systems utilizing such diagnostic tools as simple and complex building blueprints, and performs repairs on these systems which may be constructed of materials such as copper, cast iron, adhesives, epoxies, soldering, brazing, etc. 30%- Performs repairs on general heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment in buildings. Performs preventive maintenance duties on motors; adding coolant, adjusting controls, changing filters, etc. 10%- Performs multiple trade skills such as insulation (removal and repair), pump repair, painting, etc. as needed to complete job assignments. 5%- Performs all other tasks associated with the duties of the plumber classification. Assists other crafts, as needed. Occasionally, weekend and holiday work may be required. 5%- Performs general maintenance mechanic duties (including but not limited to: filter replacement, belt tensioning, basic plumbing, light replacement, etc.) on all systems on campus. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Three years of experience in pipefitting, steamfitting, or plumbing. SUBSTITUTIONS: Training in the plumbing, pipefitting, or steamfitting trade will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on a month for month basis. Special or Physical Qualifications: Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67. In accordance with PS-18 this position may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of emergency or closure. In the course of his/her duties, a Plumber Master is required to use various tools; including hand tools, power tools, and shop machinery, to complete assigned tasks. Additionally, a Plumber Master is required to: stoop, squat, kneel and bend their back; stand for up to 3 hours; climb stairs; climb ladders (fixed and portable); drive a vehicle; properly lift 50 lbs; and work reaching overhead.
