Responsibilities:
● Conducting all assigned field inspections of commercial/residential structures for compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC)
● Maintaining a record of each inspection result in the County database system
● Keeping strict compliance with inspection time limits established by the Building Official
● Solving problems and managing special projects as assigned
● Attending all mandatory training and ensuring that required building inspector certifications are current
● Providing technical information to owners, contractors, architects, and the public in a professional and timely manner
● Responding to phone inquiries the same day received
● Communicating professionally with fellow staff and customers

Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent (technical coursework in building preferred)
● Four (4) years of construction-related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
● A valid driver’s license and a good driving record
● Ability to pass criminal and DMV background checks
● Excellent problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and strong interpersonal skills
● Knowledge of policies and regulations surrounding building code regulations
● Background in construction is highly preferred

● Perform tasks in the mechanical trades, including plumbing, steam fitting, HVAC, and maintenance millwright.
● Support building maintenance and installation across the VT campus.
● Troubleshoot and repair HVAC flow controls.
● Maintain accurate records and handle work orders and inventory tracking.
● Collaborate effectively with your team and follow directions from supervisors.

Qualifications:
● Verifiable journeyman-level experience in a large commercial or institutional setting.
● Virginia Journeyman’s License in plumbing and/or HVAC (or ability to obtain within 11 months of hire).
● Significant experience with HVAC systems and technical documents like blueprints and manuals.
● Strong record-keeping skills and a thorough understanding of multiple trades.
● Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and communicate effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience in commercial, construction, or educational settings.
● Formal education or vocational training in plumbing or related fields.
● Customer service orientation and a learning mindset.
● Advanced knowledge of steam systems and familiarity with online work order systems.
